Awards
There will be 1st-4th medals awarded today and then everyone else will still receive a participation medal with the tournament year of 2005 to remind yourself in years to come that you “did it”. This goes for adults and children.
KIDS
Point Sparring
Match Length
Each match will last 90 seconds. During the first 60 seconds the stop watch will not be stopped during point calls. During the last 30 seconds, the clock will be stopped each time center judge calls “stop”.
Scoring
Points will be awarded based upon light contact or likely contact on “pulled” strikes. No head contact will be tolerated. Intentional joint, throat and eye strikes will result in immediate disqualification. For lesser violations the center judge will use warnings and point deductions.
Hand strikes will receive 1 point
Foot strikes will receive 2 points
Take downs with a follow up strike will receive 3 points
At the end of the match the one with the most points will win. In the case of a tie, the next point wins.
Sparring Equipment
Hand and foot gear must be worn by all competitors. The gear must meet the safety standard of the center judge in each ring. We highly recommend you use a mouthguard and groin cup for boys and men.
External Empty-hand and Weapon Kata
We will encourage all the children to compete with forms as well. They will be judged by the black belt panel. Points will not be given because of form difficult since students are doing only the forms they have learned for their level. And weapons will compete separately.
ADULTS
External Empty-hand and Weapon Forms
Forms will be judged by a panel of higher belts. They will give a score of 1-10 on 4 key areas. 1-Stance 2-Precision 3-Power 4-Intensity
In this division the student must use a form at his/her level. Therefore, no points will be given for the difficulty of the form. Weapons and empty will compete together.
Open Forms Division
If you are competing with a form outside your own belt level then this is the division for that. It will be judged just like the other forms division. Weapon and empty hand will compete together.
Tai Chi Forms
Empty Hand and weapon competitors will have 3 minutes to perform a portion of their form. All competitors must start at the beginning of the kata.
Form will be judged with a score of 1-10 on 4 parameters
1-Posture 2-Connectedness 3- Body control 4- Precision
Pa Kua Chang
Each participant will perform sections 3-5 of the form, doing both sides of each section.
A score of 1-10 will be awarded based on 4 components from the 64 rules of pa kua
1- Form like a dragon (fluidness) 2- Sit like a tiger (stepping correctly) 3- Flip like and eagle (speed of rotation and waist being the center) 4-vsion of the monkey (look at the hands, spirit and intention)

How Do You Win in The Adult Sparring?
Point Sparring
You will put you name on a business card and matches will be randomly put together for 50 minutes of sparring. You will likely spar at least 3 or 4 times before the finals. Then the 4 people with the best sparring records for the day will spar down for 1,2, and 3 places.
Continuous Sparring
There will be two rounds of sparring for everyone (match up chosen randomly). Those who win both matches will receive a “Undefeated” medal, and those with one win will get a “1 win 1 loss” medal.
Candle Competition (Hua Jing)
I will judge this and explain it at that time.
